Summary | 0002044: App UI Freezes sometimes
Description | MacOSX - 0.8.2 beta. I previously had version 0.6.X, but ever since upgrading to the 0.8.X versions, I experience the following frequently: * When I switch back to the DoubleCommander, it freezes (becomes unresponsive) for at least a few seconds (between 5 to 10). Like it's trying to reach an inaccessible resource or something, times out, and only then becomes responsive. * Once in a while, it become completely freezes (even after 30 seconds, it doesn't unfreeze). * Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this again and again (happens a lot of times, but not by making specific steps).

I have the same issue, I can add that the longer doublecmd window is not active then more chance to face with the issue. v 0.8.1 beta |
Same problem here, on two different macs. One with OS X El Capitan, the other with MacOS High Sierra. On Double Commander v 0.8.1 and 0.8.2 |
Same problem here. The degradation happened after update 0.7 to first version from 0.8 branch. MacOS / Sierra. |
Same here on Archlinux. Issue is only present in qt5 version. It happened with qt4 to qt5 migration I think. Here: [2018-03-06 13:44] [ALPM] removed doublecmd-qt4 (0.8.1-1) [2018-03-06 13:45] [ALPM] installed doublecmd-qt5 (0.8.2-1) |
The Reproducibility is not "random". It happens all the time when some time passes since Double Commander had focus. |
Same here, on Windows 10 64bit. |
Still happening in version 0.8.3 |
I have the same issue on Mac OS X version 10.11.6. Just like for everyone else it started after updating to the first version of 0.8 branch. Edit: and same thing about the way it happens. Usually if I let Double Commander sit without focus while working on something else, it becomes unresponsive when focus is regained. I've noticed the time it becomes unresponsive for is longer, the longer it sits without focus in the background. |
I think this might be the same issue that I filed a bug on where I mount 2 NAS drives on MacOS, but the drives are accessed every minute, so they don't have a chance to unmount, yet after some time passed, when I bring DC to the front, it freezes 10-30seconds, extremely annoying!!! Happens 0.8.2 to the latest nightly 8189 v0.9.0, have not tried versions other than the ones listed, but always had a problem. I think the problem worsened once I mounted the 2nd drive. https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/mantisbt/view.php?id=2091 |
I don't have any network devices mounted and this issue is still happening. |
Same issue here. MacOSX High Sierra / DoubleCmd 0.8.3 64 bit. No external drives, no network drives, no other nonsense. Work-Around: 32 bit 0.8.3 on same OS + device + exact DoubleCmd config does not freeze. Using that for now. This issue seems exclusive to 64 bit (At least on MacOSX). |
I went and downloaded 32-bit version of Double Commander a few hours ago. Just now ran into the same freezing issue with 32-bit version as well, although it took a lot longer before it happened. Also when it froze, I had to force-kill the process as it wouldn't unfreeze after 30 seconds (maybe coincidence). |
For me it used to happen consistently: Leave Double Commander running in background for a while (2-5min) then when you switch back you are guaranteed to have it freeze for 5-10 sec. So it was very reproducible. Now, after switching to 32bit I haven't seen any freezes in 2 days, would expect to have seen like 20-30 freezes on 64 bit. I think the freeze / kill issue might be a different issue ? I never had to kill it because of that before. I mean, I've killed it but it was because of other usage pattern. |
Accidentally opened the 64 bit version without realizing it and immediately noticed that the issue came back. Curious if others can try the 32 bit version and report back as well. |
I can also confirm that on MacOS 10.13.5 High Sierra 64bit running DC v0.9.0 8249 trunk 32bit Carbon does not experience this horrendous lag! |
Same here on macOS 10.14 |
Same for me on: Version: 0.8.4 beta Revision: 8272 Build date: 2018/08/18 Lazarus: 1.8.4.0-58419 FPC: 3.0.4 Platform: x86_64-Darwin-qt4 OS version: Mac OS X 10.14.0 Widgetset library: Qt 4.8.6, libQt4Pas 4.5.3 Sometimes it takes longer than other times, it feels like measuring disk space or looking for some disk changes. I also haven't been able to detect a clear pattern and it's terribly annoying. |
It seems this is happening if a directory open in a tab contains frequently changed files. If I leave DC pointing to a folder that has no file changes, then this bug never occurs. If I leave DC pointing to top of my project (with source code and build folders) then returning to DC after some time of work will experience long freezes (up to a minute or so). Double Commander Version: 0.8.3 beta Revision: 8160 Build date: 2018/06/03 Lazarus: 1.8.0.6 FPC: 2.6.4 Platform: x86_64-Darwin-qt4 OS version: Mac OS X 10.13.6 Widgetset library: Qt 4.8.6, libQt4Pas 4.5.3 |
Still here. Double Commander Version: 0.8.4 beta Revision: 8272 Build date: 2018/08/18 Lazarus: 1.8.4.0-58419 FPC: 3.0.4 Platform: x86_64-Darwin-qt4 OS version: Mac OS X 10.14.2 Widgetset library: Qt 4.8.6, libQt4Pas 4.5.3 |
I've been using 64-bit version 0.9.0 for the past few hours and haven't been experiencing the freezing issues on a Mac, looks like it got fixed. |
DoubleCmd in use two days. After upgrade MacOS to 10.14.3, UI Freeze issue still not appears. ->Close? Double Commander Version: 0.9.0 beta Revision: 8649 Build date: 2019/02/09 Lazarus: 2.0.1.0-60391 FPC: 3.0.4 Platform: x86_64-Darwin-qt4 OS version: Mac OS X 10.14.3 Widgetset library: Qt 4.8.6, libQt4Pas 4.5.3 |
Been using version 0.9.1 beta for Mac for a few days - seems fixed |
