Summary0002651: Crashes using Viewer (F3) for files with extensions so, html, pdf, zip, gif, ...
DescriptionIndependent of the true content of a file, DC crashes after trying the viewer (F3) with a file with an extension mentioned in the summary.
Obviously, the true file content will not be checked.
If a further extention like .txt is added in the end of the file name, the Viewer works normal. Otherwise, if one of the mentioned extensions is added to a harmless ascii file, the Viewer crashes.
This behaviour is extremely disturbing, since it is often very useful to have a quick look to the code for instance of a html file or other files with the mentioned extensions, at least by viewing its hex code.
Coming from the Total Commander by Chr. Ghisler, I was very surprised about this behaviour, since with Total Commander it is possible to view (at least its hex code) of an arbitrary file (if it is not extremely huge).
Steps To ReproduceThe reported "feature" works always.

Which error? Can you show last entry from doublecmd.err?

Do you use any third-party plugins? For example, from here https://github.com/j2969719/doublecmd-plugins other place?

1. Answers to Skiff_off
- There are no entries in ~/.config/doublecmd/doublecmd.err related to the reported F3 error.
- I installed several plugins from the official site https://github.com/doublecmd/plugins/releases Version 20.06.24 like e.g. fileinfo which is called by F3.

2. Today (21-06-25), during checking the AppImges from https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/site/eng/snapshots.php Version 1.0.0 Revision 9836/7 for Linux 64 Bit both the qt and the gtk variant I noticed that the mentioned F3 effect still persists in the qt variant BUT NOT in the gtk variant !!!
The Appimage doublecmd-gtk-1.0.0+svn9836+git8abe60104-226.1.Build227.1.glibc2.10-x86_64.AppImage
workes fine as expected with F3 for the mentioned file types (html, htm, pdf, zip, gif, so).

Fileinfo is a GTK2 only plugin. It cannot work with Qt version. All viewer plugins is widgetset (GTK2, Qt5) specific and can be used only in one. All viewer plugins from there are GTK2.

Thanks Alexx2000 and Skif_off for their valuable support and the explanation of the "F3 effect".
