Summary0000418: Feature request: When comparing by content - option to show that files differ before actually doing the comparison
DescriptionWhen using compare by content option it is sometimes useful to know if the files are different or not (from a binary point of view). Also the (optional?) dialog/message box should have the close option in case the user just wants to know if there's a difference or not.

To be more precise: when I compare two files I want a dialog to tell me if the files differ or not. And this dialog should also have a "Close" option in case I am not interested in the file comparison.
Steps To ReproduceYou select two files and go to "Files->Compare by contents". The difference is directly shown and you cannot know if the files are identical or not.

Using version 0.8.3 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: when comparing 2 identical text files it just enters the internal comparison tool (I have not configured an external one). When clicking the "Compare" button it shows that there are all matches and the other 3 numbers are zero. (see screenshot)

The original request was "[..] when I compare two files I want a dialog to tell me if the files differ or not. And this dialog should also have a "Close" option in case I am not interested in the file comparison"

Does the "resolved" of this request mean it really was implemented (but now was somehow lost, at least for the Linux version)?

I actually do NOT want a feature like this here, I would prefer the feature requested with 0001051: Show MessageBox if compared files are identical

Option "Auto compare" should be enabled in internal compare tool (Menu->"Options"->"Auto Compare").
